Let’s go beyond nutritional disclosure for healthier menu options.
Manitoba has adopted the nutrition information program, Informed Dining, that originated in British Columbia. The program provides restaurant guests with easily accessible and wide-ranging nutritional values such as calories, fat, sodium and many others in their favourite restaurants.
Major food service companies like Tim Hortons display a Nutrition Guide in every restaurant because consumers are interested in nutrition and healthier menu options. The company has been reducing trans fats and sodium in recent years and introducing healthier menu options, such as yogurt. They can even do better, by using SugarLike sweeteners instead of sugar in donuts and coffee.
